Relief
Land surface in Hodeidah governorate can be divided into 3 parts:
a. Coastal plains
b.High mountains
c. Islands
Area Area of Hodeidah governorate is about (12252 km2).
a. Coastal Plains:
Most of Hodeidah lands are situated in the coastal plain area of the Red sea. Hodeidah plains extend from Al-Luhaiya in the north to Khokha in the south with about (280 km L) and about ( 30 – 60 Km W). This plain consists of many valleys, which recive falling rain and running water coming from the high in-lands of the governorate. They also come from the plateaus and mountains of Ibb, Dhamar, Raymah, Sanaa, Mahawit and Hajah governorates. Water passes until reaching the Red sea. The main valleys in Hodeidah plains are ( Moor, Sirdood, Seham, Ramaa,Nakhla and Zabied valleys). The last mentioned valley branches are :Tebab, Alouja, Al-Lawya and other small valleys spreading in this plain.
b. High Mountains:
The main highlands in Hodeidah governorate are :
- Jebel Ras which, is about (2000 m High ) from sea level and located in Jebel Ras directorate.
- Jebel Buraa in Buraa governorate and about 2400 m high from sea level.
- Jebel Dubas & Mustour in Hays directorate.
- Jebel Al-Rekab in Zabied directorate.
- Jebel Damir, Al-Damn, Wahna, Al-Sharief, in Bajil directorate.
- Jebel Al-Qimmah: Located in the east of Al-Salief town where salt mines are available.
c. Islands Group:
There are groups of Yemeni islands in the Red sea ate Hodeidah governorate. They are mor than 97 islands in number. The main beggest islands are : Kamaran, Jebel Zuker, Hanish, Jabel Al-Tayr, Takfash, (Intofish) Al-Rek, Ketama, Hanish Al-Sugra, Jebel Al-Zubair… etc. Hodeidah is the top coastal governorate containing islands.
